Why We Work in Clay

At Mayfield Studios, clay is more than a material—it’s a way of thinking, a way of making, and a way of being with others.

The Gentle Rhythm of the Wheel

We are here for the slow process, for the rhythm of the wheel, for the surprise of what comes out of the kiln. We are here for the warmth of small classes, for the shared cups of tea, and for clay-covered hands making something together.

Stories in the Clay

The pots we make carry more than form. They hold the stories of the people who shaped them. A beginner’s first wobbly bowl, a seasoned potter’s careful refinement, a glaze that did something unexpected—we welcome all of it. Clay gives us the chance to slow down, pay attention, and connect—with the material, with each other, and with ourselves.

How We Teach

This is why we teach the way we do: gently, inclusively, and with care. Whether you're here once or often, beginner or experienced, there's space for your story in our studio. We also offer open studio access for those who want to work independently in a shared space.
