Wheel Throwing Courses with
Juliet Sayers.

We offer a six-week course with glaze instruction ($440) and a beginner/beginner plus class. And a four-week course that teaches throwing and trimming only. (Work glazed by us.) If you can’t pay up front we are happy for you to pay by the week.

Both of these are perfect for beginners and those with some experience.

NDIS participants welcome! (Please reserve your space using the coupon NDISBookme or see below.)

Includes: Clay, tools, glazes.
Duration: Two hours each week.
Bring: An apron and a towel.
Wear: Clothes that can get dirty. Closed shoes are essential.
Collection of work: 3 - 4 weeks.

The course needs at least six people to proceed, so bring a friend!

Missed classes can be made up by attending the alternate class or with a single unsupervised Studio Access session.

  • 6-week classes are offered once every 8 weeks on a Thursday and a Sunday.

Refine your technique or just build your confidence! Focus on a variety of functional pieces. Make test tiles and experiment with glaze. Glaze your work in the final week! These classes will cater to absolute beginners and anyone who has some experience, too! If there are spaces it is possible to make up classes by attending the alternate session for that term.

  • Our four-week course is a revolving door. We run it every Wednesday evening , and you can join in any time paying $80 for each week that you enrol.

Dive into throwing on the wheel. Focus on mastering the essential skills. Spend one week throwing the next trimming and then repeat. Leave with four pieces glazed by us, or hang on to the work you make and glaze it yourself during some studio access time.

Students are welcome to start at any time and keep one piece for every week they attend, though we encourage them to wait until they have been throwing for a few weeks before choosing the pieces that they would like to have fired and glazed. Your teacher will cater to your level and encourage you to develop your skills steadily with appropriate instruction.

Students should bring an apron and a towel to each class and wear covered shoes.

So that you know, this class has a maximum of 10 places and does not include glaze instructions. If you are after glazing instruction you should join our 6 week course.

  • Nick has been making wheel-thrown tableware since 2012, moving from a photography career after discovering the joy of clay. He studied under Jane Sawyer at Slow Clay in Melbourne, and spent time at the National Art School in Sydney before working closely with his creative mentors, including Prue Venables, Chester Nealie, and Sandy Lockwood.

His work is inspired by a love of useful objects, the search for an essential beauty, and the breath of the sea. Teaching pottery offers an opportunity to share the deep connections that clay creates - with the world and within our daily rituals.

Nick believes that through thoughtful, handcrafted objects we can create a deeper engagement with the world around us. His greatest wish is to encourage moments of quiet contemplation and joy in the rhythms of daily life.
