Membership Options

Membership with storage: $245 a month
Everything below, plus your own large storage box on wheels for tools, equipment and clay. The wheels make it easy to move, so there's no lifting heavy clay on and off high shelves.

Membership: $200 a month
Studio access with shared member shelving for your work.

All memberships include

• Studio access any time during open hours, with no booking needed
• Use of wheels, worktables and shared studio equipment

• Member firing rate of $11 per kilo, for both bisque and glaze firings
• Bring a friend free once a month
• Community talks, demonstrations and studio gatherings
• Priority at the wheels when the studio is busy

Clay and firing are paid as you use them. Membership is capped at 25 members, so the studio stays calm and there's always room to work.

Studio Hours

• Tuesday to Thursday: 9am–9pm
• Friday to Sunday: 9am–3pm
• Monday: closed

Hours may occasionally change for classes, events or maintenance. We'll always let members know in advance.

Billing and Your Membership

• Membership is billed once a month, with no upfront payment and no lock-in contract
• You can cancel any time. Just let us know before your next billing date
• Cancelling stops your next payment. We don't refund part months
• If a payment doesn't go through, we'll let you know. Studio access is paused until it's sorted
• Going away for a while? Simply cancel and rejoin when you're back, as long as a place is available. As there's no upfront payment, we don't offer pauses
• If prices change, we'll give current members at least 30 days' notice
• Joining after using studio credit? Any unused credit can go towards your first month

Independent Studio Use

Membership is for independent making rather than tuition. Fellow members and staff are always happy to share what they know, but there are no formal lessons or supervision.

Members are responsible for their own projects, processes, materials and safety. If you're unsure how to use any equipment, material or process safely, please ask before you start.

Storage

• Keep your work on the member shelving, and your tools and clay in your storage box if you have one
• Clearly label all work with your name and contact details
• Please don't use another member's storage box or shelf space
• Work left outside the member areas may be moved

Mayfield can't accept responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal property.

Clay

Members may use clay purchased through Mayfield, or other approved clay bodies.

Please check with us before bringing in clay we haven't approved. Unknown clay bodies can cause problems in the kiln and may be declined. Damage caused by unsuitable clay may be charged to the member responsible.

Firing

Our team loads and fires every piece with care, and work usually comes back within a week.

• Place work in the designated firing area, clearly labelled with your name and contact details
• Weigh and pay for work before firing, at the member rate of $11 per kilo
• Make sure pieces are completely dry before bisque firing
• Clean glaze thoroughly from bases and foot rings

For everyone's safety, only studio staff enter the technical area, load or unload the kilns, or adjust kiln settings. All firing decisions remain at the discretion of studio management.

Glazing

Please glaze thoughtfully.

If you'd like to experiment with unfamiliar glazes, techniques or materials, have a chat with us first. Glaze on the bottom of work can permanently damage kiln shelves, and damage to shelves, kiln furniture or equipment may be charged to the member responsible.

Cleaning and Studio Care

Please leave enough time to clean up before you go.

• Clean your wheel
• Clean tools and bats
• Wipe down work surfaces
• Sweep where needed
• Return equipment to where it belongs

The studio should be ready for the next person when you leave.

Guests

Bring a friend free once a month. We love meeting new faces.

Additional guests pay casual access rates. Members are responsible for making sure their guests follow studio policies.

Studio Culture

Mayfield works best when people are generous with one another.

• Leave room for different approaches to clay
• Help create a positive and inclusive environment

There is no place for bullying, harassment or intimidation. Everyone was new once.

Membership Review

Membership may be reviewed, suspended or cancelled where studio policies are repeatedly ignored, or where behaviour negatively affects the studio community.

We hope this never becomes necessary.
