Bring your workshop to Mayfield

We invite skilled makers to run their own workshops in our rebuilt, light-filled studio. You design and teach. We look after the bookings, payments, promotion and firing, and you keep 85% of your fee.

Makers working with clay together in the Mayfield studio

Who we're looking for

Makers with something to share

Mayfield is an open studio, so we don't run courses ourselves. Instead, we welcome experienced makers to teach what they know best: a hand-building tradition, a surface technique, a firing method, a way of working with the wheel. Workshops can be a single session or a weekend intensive, and our members and the wider Melbourne clay community come along to learn something new.

We host just two visiting workshops a month for now, so our members always have room to work. Dates are held in the order they're confirmed, so it's worth getting in touch early.

What you get

You teach. We handle the rest.

85% of your fee

You set your fee per student and receive 85% of it, the same for members and the public.

No admin

We take the bookings and payments, answer student questions and handle refunds.

Promotion

We share your workshop with our members, online and in the studio, with a profile linking to your own site.

Firing handled

Our team loads and fires every student's work, and students collect it from the front desk.

Sell your work

Bring your own work, tools or books to sell on the day. We take no commission.

A community

Students can choose to join your mailing list, and you become part of a studio full of working makers.

The space

A studio built for making

We've spent the last two years rebuilding our Abbotsford building from the ground up.

Light and air

Skylights, high ceilings and big fans, with room for a full workshop group.

The loft and balcony

A separate space upstairs, ideal for demonstrations and smaller groups.

Four large kilns

Electric kilns of around 170 litres each, with firings usually back within a week.

Kitchen and facilities

A full kitchen for breaks and shared lunches, and accessible toilets.

Pricing

Simple, and fair to everyone

Studio fee Public $16 an hour (capped at $55 a day) · Members $8 an hour (capped at $28 a day)

We'd love to hear from you

Email us with a little about you and your practice, a few photos of your work, your workshop idea and the fee you have in mind. We'll be in touch to talk it through.

With only two workshop dates a month, they go to the first teachers to confirm. Your date is reserved once the agreement is signed and the deposit is paid.
